Everyone who walks into one of our Foodmaker restaurants chooses a salad, a freshly-made wrap or a tasty hot meal. There’s plenty of choice: vegetarian, vegan, responsible meat or even delicious deserts.
Whichever Foodmaker dish you choose you are making a good choice. We guarantee that every meal is made fresh every day with a lot of passion and love and using the best ingredients. The ingredients are delivered to our restaurants every day fresh from the fields, in many cases fresh from our own organic fields. That is how we give you easy access to healthy and tasty food every day. That is Foodmaker’s mission.
Vegetables are in our genes and are the basis of all Foodmaker recipes. Our CEO and founder, Lieven Vanlommel, grew up ‘between the greens’. His great-grandfather was a vegetable trader (way back in the 1920s) and Mamma Mattie had a greegrocer’s shop in Diest. Now (Great-)grandson Lieven wants his green vegetable dishes to become the alternative for the golden arches hamburger.
Just to be clear: there is nothing wrong with sinning occasionally and tucking into a hamburger, pizza or kebab roll. Sometimes you just need to say “F*** it” and enjoy a ‘guilty pleasure’. OK. But there has to be a certain balance. And that is exactly where Foodmaker can play a major role.
Finding food that is fast, healthy and affordable isn’t that easy. Foodmaker wants to make it easier. You may only be able to find our restaurants in several of the larger cities, but our aim is to, together with our retail partners, make sure there are hundreds of locations where you can go to pick up your ‘vegetable fix’. For the past few years you have even been able to enjoy our products during a Brussels Airlines flight! We are determined that our healthy dishes will be accessible to everyone – whether they live in a large town or a small village.
The power of vegetables
It’s a proven fact: a diet of processed food full of sugars (which is the norm in most western countries) raises the mortality rate considerably. Obesity, heart and vascular disease, diabetes and cancers are just some of the dramatic effects of an unhealthy diet. Geert Meyfroidt, Chairman of the Belgian Society of Intensive Care Medicine, recently stated that 70 to 80 percent of all coronavirus patients treated in intensive care are overweight.
This is precisely where companies like Foodmaker can make a difference. Please do eat your daily portion of vegetables! Vegetables are low in calories and high in vitamins, minerals, amino acids, carbohydrates (the good ones!), water, dietary fibre, fatty acids and much, much more. Vegetables regulate the blood sugar level, lower cholesterol, and reduce the risk of heart and vascular diseases and diabetes. They also give the immune system a boost. Home grown and local vegetables
The vegetables used in the Foodmaker dishes are either grown in our own organic fields or are purchased every day from certificated local farmers who are happy for our own people to select the vegetables they want. It’s how we ensure the best quality on your plate. Bon apetite!
